Today’s Faux Wood is No Faux Pas
If you have seen the recent bipartisan television commercial featuring the Reverend Al Sharpton and Pat Robertson agreeing on the topic of saving the planet, it’s obvious that environmental awareness has superseded political differences. This concept translates into the housing industry where homeowners want green products that accommodate their lush lifestyles. People hope to impact the Earth less, while continuing to enjoy their upscale dwellings. Palmer Todd, Inc., a source for high-quality cabinetry for kitchens and baths, understands this paradigm shift. “The term green was not even on the radar five years ago – People are much more educated today,” says Christi Palmer, ASID, CKD and president of Palmer Todd, Inc. “Manufacturers have been forced to utilize environmentally preferable products (EPP) certified materials for the production of cabinetry.”
When researching green products, check for the EPP-certification. “Look for the environmentally-friendly certifications and products that are built to last,” Palmer said.
Downsview Kitchens offers a cabinetry collection that meets both of these requirements and more. “Downsview is an EPP-certified product, and an industry leader in product innovation and attention to environmental concerns,” says Palmer. “They listen to the clients’ needs and make every effort to provide products that are environmentally friendly and beautiful.”
Downsview offers a full array of faux wood laminates and
reconstituted products and veneers. “Composite wood panels are considered one of the greenest options because they are constructed from pre and post-consumer recycled woods and wood residuals that would otherwise be discarded,” says Gianni Casiraghi, the Downsview Marketing Manager. “Its creation requires less energy than other building products and fewer harmful by-products are produced.” These products must meet the rigorous CPA (Composite Panel Association) EPPS-2-06 certification program standards. In order to receive the EPP Downstream seal the product must undergo vigorous requirements, including ongoing participant testing for formaldehyde emissions and quarterly sample submissions for large chamber testing accredited by a third party. Downsview must also utilize 100 percent of recycled or recovered wood fiber.
“While green is this year’s buzz word, it’s important to buy quality products that last,” says Casiraghi. “Being able to continue using the product for many years, means one less item destined for a landfill.”
