The house is the ultimate canvas, poised to reflect its dwellers’ personal flair for design, style and functionality. While remodeling produces creative opportunities, it can be an intimidating process. Jim and Kathy Floyd, Central Austin residents, experienced jitters when they began updating two bathrooms in their 1965 house.

 

“My wife had a definite vision, but she was hesitant of making ‘wrong’ decisions that would haunt us later,” said Floyd. “Debby Williams, showroom manager at Josco Bath & Kitchen Showroom, listened to our goals, asked thoughtful questions and guided us through the entire selection process. Although our project was not huge, she gave us special attention that would never occur at a big box home improvement store.”

 

Williams described the couple’s style as soft contemporary, and explained how she shared her expertise. “We began with arms spread wide open, and as the search narrowed, our arms got closer and closer until we easily defined each room’s mission,” said Williams.

 

The couple chose two red marbleized glass vessel sinks for the master bathroom, which created a sleek, refined style. The Floyds chose to offset the vessel filler, creating a more visually stimulating area. “The vessels were economical, but still beautiful,” said Williams. “Our customers don’t have to spend a fortune to design beautiful spaces.”

Their high school son’s smaller bathroom, which also accommodates guests, contained a unique challenge. “Their son is over six-feet tall and needed wall mounted furniture that he could easily access,” said Williams. “Whether you are short or tall, we have furniture pieces designed specifically for those needs.”

 

The couple retiled the shower white with black accents and coordinated the showerhead and tub spout. “The faucet water even shoots out at an angle, for a cool effect,” said Floyd.
