Far From Your Typical Dining Room

Gone are the days of the stuffy dining room that’s used twice annually and furnished with pieces that make grandma yell “don’t touch.” Today’s dining trends are based on everyday living – families gathering around for meals, homework, games, and entertaining. The Inspired Home, Charlotte’s purveyor of cool home furnishings, accommodates this trend by offering solid wood, handcrafted and livable furniture.

While The Inspired Home offers dining furniture of traditional sizes, shapes and colors, the current trend is toward configurations such as large square or counter-height tables. “Square tables, like rounds, offer an intimate atmosphere,” said Jennifer Carwile, owner. “No one feels left out.” Counter-height tables are popular for the ease in sitting down and standing up. “Many customers love sitting up high at a pub table; however, the height makes it a climb. The counter-height modification works well.”

Another hot trend is leather dining chairs due to their easy maintenance, great styling and durability. Stain-resistant leather cleans with no trouble and makes for comfortable seating while lounging around the table.

“The Inspired Home has Charlotte’s largest in-stock selection of leather chairs at very competitive prices, featuring our new Wasabi green chair – a color that looks great with our natural wood tables,” Jennifer says.

For those who prefer the more traditional upholstered chair, The Inspired Home has that, too, offering custom-upholstered chairs with varied leg styles, stain colors and fabric choices. You can even provide your own fabric if you can’t decide on one of theirs.

The best part of patronizing The Inspired Home: It’s guilt-free with numerous “green” products. Their upholstery manufacturer utilizes soy-based foam in cushions, reducing the use of scarce oil resources by substituting a sustainable option. Meanwhile, many of their dining and bedroom furnishings are crafted from eco-friendly woods, such as reclaimed teak or mango wood.

According to Jennifer, “What we offer is not your grandmother’s dining room, per se, but new trends in dining with the perfect balance of art and design, quality standards, and the respect of individuals and nature.”
