The Garage: The Last Organization Frontier

Most people today have more "stuff" than they have space. Custom-built closet organizers are one solution. But Jim Riggs of Charlotte has taken that concept a step further.

"The garage is the largest, most underutilized space in the home," explains the president of PremierGarage of Charlotte. "What we do is transform garages into more-usable spaces." Whether it's creating a workshop, getting those Christmas decorations out of sight-or finally de-cluttering the garage so the cars will fit inside once again-PremierGarage has a solution.

"We customize the design of the cabinets and flooring to fit with the style of the rest of the home," Riggs explains, "so that, whether your home is traditional or contemporary, the garage is an extension of it." Each garage then gets a custom design to fit the dimensions of the space-and the budget. "We'll come to your home and show you a CAD design proposal that's tailored to you," he states.

Upgrading the interior of the garage, Riggs believes, complements the increased attention homeowners are paying to the exterior. When many upscale homes are opting for amenities such as carriage doors, he points out, "Getting the most out of your investment includes getting the most of out the garage space itself."

Of course, garages endure conditions not found in other interior rooms. The space may be opened to sun and weather, or subject to automotive chemicals and dust. For that reason the PremierOne Plus polymer flooring--which is unique to PremierGarage, is resistant to ultraviolet rays, chemicals, and abrasions. Yet the flooring is easy to maintain and comes in numerous colors and textures.

After the flooring is installed, cabinets are built from a high-density material that is
manufactured and constructed to stand up to heavy loads and temperature extremes without sagging, warping, or delaminating. Shelving is fully adjustable, and cabinets are always mounted securely off the floor to prevent water damage or pest infiltration.

Because PremierGarage pre-plans each installation, homeowners should be able to use their garages again within 24 hours. "We configure each project differently in order to get what the homeowner is trying to accomplish. But in the end," Riggs smiles, "most people have a common goal-to get their automobiles back inside their garage."
