Beautiful Design Inside and Out

Perhaps one of the highest compliments that can be paid to someone with a lifelong passion for interior design is being hired to put those skills to use in the personal homes of contractors with whom they have worked. That describes Tracie Johnson in the Charlotte and Lake Norman area since opening the doors to PTI Design, Inc. Her firm specializes in new construction and interior/exterior design. An area of her specialty is green interior design.

Tracie leaves no stone unturned; she’s involved in the selection from every aspect, including: exterior selections, cabinetry, countertops, flooring, fireplaces, mantels, architectural elements, furnishings, window treatments, and any other instrumental aspect of a new home. “New construction and seeing a project come together before it actually comes together onsite is exciting,” she says. Tracie’s creative eye and distinctive tastes have captured the attention of some of the area’s higher-end homeowners since most of her business comes from satisfied clients’ referrals.

Regarding living green, Tracie knows this subject well. This interest developed when she was trying to help her son with allergies. The crown jewel will be the completion of her 3,000-square-foot studio which features an array of green products and appliances for interested clients to try out on the spot; the remaining portion of the 9,000-square-foot building is Tracie’s home.

Her North Carolina Healthy Built Home – which will also be Energy Star® certified – will be on display to the public in April 2008 as an NCHBH fundraiser. The building takes advantage of green bonuses such as heating and cooling costs’ savings, solar hot-water, formaldehyde-free cabinetry, roof PV panels (photovoltaic solar), low-VOC paints and tax breaks that come from building green. Tracie meets with her clients in their homes to measure existing heirloom or sentimental pieces that need to be incorporated into the new residence, as well as to get a feel for their existing space usage. When you work with Tracie, you’ll be pleased to find she is involved in the entire process to pull every element together – from electrical meetings and design, to pre-plumbing to special architectural elements. She is there throughout to help specify these details to contractors and others involved in the creation of your home – a quality you’ll find to be priceless.

PTI is located at 3140 North Highway 16 in Denver. For more information, contact Tracie Johnson at 704-483-9923, email pti@projectlivegreen.com, or visit projectlivegreen.com.
