All the Amenities of Home

Four years ago when Todd and Vicki Boerema moved to Charlotte, they already knew who would build their new home. "We used to live in Atlanta," explains Vicki, "and knew of a community there that had the style and amenities we wanted." And because Vicki is an agent for Allen Tate Realtors, she quickly looked up that same builder to see what might be available in Charlotte.

The builder was John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods. And as it turned out, the company had just begun offering homes in a new development called Brookhaven in Union County-with all the style and amenities the Boeremas were seeking. "Todd and I wanted a gourmet kitchen that included stainless steel appliances," Vicki recalls, "and we customized the bar area and added upgrades like a built-in refrigerator. Craftsmanship was also important to us, and we got gorgeous millwork and ceilings with beautiful trim and crown molding."

Attention to detail, says Brookhaven, Neighborhood Sales Manager, Mitch Goldberg, is one way that John Wieland Homes sets itself apart. "We offer the finest appointments, like granite tile backsplashes and maple cabinets," he relates. And the interior excellence is matched by exterior curb appeal. For example, he says that "many of our customers are looking for French country style elements like stone and specialty shutters, and so we created a division of the company, Colonnade Custom Homes, to meet the demand."

Design and style are vital, but homeowners like the Boeremas also seek a sense of place. "We've been blown away with the sense of community at Brookhaven," affirms Vicki. And that happens, adds Goldberg, by "building not just great homes, but great neighborhoods."

At Brookhaven, he says, the developer has "taken amenities to a whole different level" with features including lighted tennis and basketball courts, pool, walking trails, playground, and a 10,000-square-foot clubhouse. The latter features a media room, fitness center with adjoining play room, piano bar, and gathering room. Residents also enjoy a full aquatic park with a triple-loop water slide, lazy river, kids' water feature areas, and beach-entry pool.

All those amenities provide venues for neighbors to build lasting relationships. "We've found that everyone moved here for the same reasons," says Vicki. "The opportunities to meet people have created friendships. That's so important for the way families live today."
