Changing Looks for Changing Lifestyles When Chris and Amy Williams moved into their Highland area home, they came with a growing family. “We needed to make some changes to adjust to our lifestyle,” Amy said. Since Matthew, 10, and Allison, 7, had moved past their baby toys, the Williams converted their play area and part of their garage into a media room. But they didn’t stop there. The Williams gave their outdated master bath a makeover too. “We had a tub we didn’t use, so we made the space into a closet for Chris’ sport coats and dress pants,” Amy said. To complete the job they put in a 4’x5’ walk-in shower. Deciding to remodel was easy but getting the work completed was another story. After interviewing several contractors, they talked to David Tyson of David Tyson and Associates Inc. “David was full-service and acted as our contractor and designer. None of the other companies offered us that service, so we saved money by not hiring an architect,” Amy said. Service is what Tyson is all about. Before starting his business 25 years ago, he learned how to cultivate relationships with his customers. “Clients should be treated like human beings,” he says. Tyson’s method has turned his customers into advocates and he estimates more than 90 percent of his clients come from referrals. While business for some remodeling companies has turned sour, Tyson’s approach benefits him and the client. When the Williams chose French doors for their new media room, they were concerned about the existing structure. “We had arches and doorways that needed to be worked around,” says Amy. “The doors are perfect. They give privacy while letting us keep an eye on the kids.” The Williams are part of a growing trend. “In this real estate market, people are finding that remodeling their home to fit their lifestyle makes more sense than moving,” says Tyson. And it’s not just expanding families that have remodeling needs. “Some clients remodel out of necessity while others want to upgrade,” he said. Recognized by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), Tyson has earned the distinction of being not only a Certified Remodeler (CR), but also a Certified Kitchen and Bath Remodeler (CKBR) and a Certified Lead Carpenter (CLC). Able to tackle a variety of jobs, Tyson specializes in kitchens, baths, master suites, additions and custom homes. The company has received more than two dozen awards for its work including the 2007 Chrysalis Award for Best Kitchen $75K to $100K. While some contractors told the Williams that their jobs were too small, Tyson took a different approach. “David made us feel like we were part of the family,” said Amy. The Williams already plan to be part of the 30-40 percent of Tyson’s clients who are repeat customers. “I can’t wait for him to come back for my kitchen.” For more information, call David Tyson and Associates Inc. at 704-523-6521 or visit www.tysonrenovations.com. |
